Update on July 1, 2019:

This concert given by the Münchner Knabenchor at Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church on June 7, 2019 was a splendid event. The 16 voice ensemble filled the church with their pure treble voices. Ralf Ludewig, the musical director of the Münchner Knabenchor, was a dynamic force that obviously inspired his singers to their best potential.

The opening piece, an excerpt from “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff, impressed the audience with dramatic power. Following that, the concert program was divided into sections offering repertoire from classical church music, traditional German folksongs, music from films and popular music. That the young singers could handle all of these various styles with equal success was a testament to the discipline of their musical training.

There was so much variety in the arrangements of the music. Opportunities for solos and duets, notably in Panis Angelicus by Cesar Franck and Laudamus Te from the Vivaldi “Gloria” revealed confident vocal talent. The piano accompanist, formerly a choir member before the inevitable voice change that comes at puberty was very accomplished.

The audience showed their appreciation to the performers with a standing ovation. Besides the uplifting effect of the choir’s performance it is very encouraging to see and hear young people engaged in serious music-making. It gives hope for the continuation of the choral music tradition in Western culture.

Martin Luther Church and German International School Toronto proudly present the Münchner Knabenchor (Munich Boys Choir):

From Bach to Bond
Friday, June 7, 2019 at 7:00 pm
at Martin Luther Church, 2379 Lake Shore Blvd West, Toronto
Admission Free

The Munich Boys Choir is an offshoot of the Tölzer Choir and has made it a goal to perform classical and traditional music as well as modern pieces at the highest level. Since its founding four years ago, the choir has made a name for themselves in the German choir scene with success such as admission to the Siemens Art Program last year and a performance at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie.

In June, the choir boys will visit the German International School Toronto and bring a lot of music. They will also sing in front of the German settler houses at Black Creek Pioneer Village (Saturday, June 8, 12 noon) as well as at a reception at the German Consul General.

They are especially looking forward to the concert at Martin Luther Church on Friday, June 7 at 7:00 pm because they will perform their modern pop and rock favorites and a few spiritual classics.
