Full of Gospel Music

This year, end of summer, we will host two fantastic choirs from Germany that will enrich our congregational life with concerts, worship services and a large Gospel Music Workshop. Take advantage of this unique opportunity and enjoy modern church music at its best:
St. Martin Gospel Choir from Nienburg, Germany
• On Saturday August 29, 2015 at 5:00 pm: Benefit Concert in support of the Martin Luther Church Daycare Re-opening. Enjoy a gospel choir concert featuring the St. Martin Gospel Choir from Nienburg, Germany. We can expect a varied program under the direction of church musician Imke Marks: African hymns, traditional gospel and spiritual songs, as well as modern church songs. If you would like to have a listen in advance, you can find audio clips on their website at www.stmartin-gospel.de. There will be snacks at the concert and an opportunity to meet the singers.
• On Sunday August 30, 9:45 am and 11:00 am: The St. Martin Gospel Choir will be part of both of our Sunday morning worship services. There will be a lot of movement and opportunity to sing along. You will discover that there are now a number of German-language compositions to go along with the English gospel hymns.
Gospel Unity Choir from Bockenem, Germany
• On Saturday September 12, we will offer a full-day public Choir Workshop together with Gospel Unity Choir from Bockenem, Germany ( http://www.gospel-unity.de/ ). Ulrike Bourehil will lead the choir and the workshop. She is the musical director for the Gospel Church Hildesheim.
Do you love singing, but don’t have time to attend choir practices regularly? Here is your chance. No musical background or experience is necessary, just a love of gospel music.
The workshop begins at 10:00 am in the church. Lunch will be enjoyed as part of the Wesley Mimico United Church fundraising BBQ.
The workshop runs until 6:00 pm followed by a potluck dinner. Please contribute a small dish. The workshop is free and everyone is welcome (both congregational members and non-members). Register with the church office by Friday September 4, 2015.
• On Sunday September 13th during our joint worship service at 11:00 am participants of the workshop will perform what they learned together with our guest choir Gospel Unity.
