All Day

World Day of Prayer Service will be Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at Mimico Baptist Church, 80 Hillside Ave, Toronto  (https://mimicobaptist.ca/)

The focus country is Nigeria. This year’s theme is: “I will give you rest: come.” Artwork: “Rest for the Weary” by Gift Amarachi Ottah

We will be showing a video supplied by Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada (https://wdpcanada.ca/) for this year’s World Day of Prayer.

We have a Nigerian woman who will lead the singing in her native dress. We also have a Djembe drummer (our pastor!). There will be a video and hand out sheet about the needs of the country. We are ending the service with “The Blessing” being sung on video in each of the languages of Nigeria. We think it will be an informative and interesting day. Apparently it is a country where Christians are persecuted, so our prayers and offerings are vital.

We need one or two more readers, and would love help with the refreshments – sugar cookies, and mini fruit muffins (banana, blueberry).

Planning meetings

We are doing most of our planning by email (people are so busy), but are doing a run-through and learning the Nigerian songs, etc. on Tuesday afternoon, March 3, at 2:00 pm. It would be wonderful if people from your church would like to get involved.

We hope each church in our area can send a representative. Please email or call Jan Thomas, Mimico Baptist Church (416-252-2582 jan@mimicobaptist.ca ) with any questions. Looking forward to this time of learning, praying and giving with you all.

Artwork title: Rest for the Weary: The three women, with differing headwear, seated at the bottom right of the World Day of Prayer 2026 Nigeria artwork by artist Gift Amarachi Ottah, represent the three major ethnic groups of Nigeria -Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo. Gift explained that the overall message for the 2026 service is “Come”. She said the word “Wazobia” symbolizes Nigeria’s unity, especially for the three major ethnic groups, and a call for inclusion. Wa” means “Come: for Yoruba; “Zo” means “Come” for Hausa; and “Bia” means “Come” for Igbo.
