Holy Monday Reflection on April 6\, 2020 by Vicar Jordan Smith\, Martin Lu
ther Church[/caption]\n\nApril 6\, 2020 -  Hello and thank you for joinin
g us on this Monday of Holy Week. As we have passed through Jesus’s entr
y to Jerusalem\, we now take time to look at three parts of Matthew’s go
spel in preparation for Maundy Thursday.\n\nToday\, Jesus is tested by the
religious leaders and his response gives us the two great commandments.\n
 \nhttps://youtu.be/_OLsnb-QSWw\n\nReading\; Matthew 22:34-40\n\n34 When th
e Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees\, they gathered toget
 her\, 35 and one of them\, a lawyer\, asked him a question to test him. 36
“Teacher\, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” 37 He said
to him\, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart\, and
with all your soul\, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the greatest an
d first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your ne
ighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and t
he prophets.”\n\nCall to Action\nOur goal together for this week is to s
pend time dwelling in the story. One way to help that happen is to make so
me space that you can go to with no (or at least fewer) distractions. So\,
maybe your call to action for today is to clean the house a bit\, or mayb
e it is taking the time to create a devotional space\, even if just for th
e next week. I’ve created this space in my basement office. I cleared of
 f a shelf\, put a small cloth on it\, four candles\, a cross\, and a Bible
. Maybe your space is one end of the dining room table. Or simply your fav
ourite chair with a candle placed nearby. Over the next week\, as I take t
ime to read the lessons each day\, I’ll take some time in this space to
reflect on this powerful story and what it means to me today.\n\nThank you
for joining us today. Take time to reflect on the passage we just heard\,
read it again in your own Bible or in the video description below\, and t
hink about how the great commandments are lived out in your life.\n\nDismi
ssal\nGo in peace. Reflect on the passion story.\nThanks be to God.\n\nThe
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has created Worship in the Home li
turgies for all of Holy Week. They can be found at this link.\n\n*********
