Our Outreach ministries currently are Bowls and Blessings, Community Pantry, Bazaar, Raised Bed Gardening, Drum Circle, and Masks for Good.

Community Pantry

On August 13, 2021 Martin Luther Church opened a Community Pantry in front of the church, open 24/7. Passers-by can take what they need or donate non perishable food items to help keep the pantry stocked. We hope this project will enhance food security in the Mimico neighbourhood and help build a caring and supportive community.

Gardening in the Raised Beds

Behind the church on Superior Avenue are raised beds where we have a community garden. Started in July 2021 the MLC summer students planted a variety of vegetables with seeds provided by the Compost Council of Canada ( The crops were distributed during Beverages and Blessings throughour the summer months. As well, local passers-by could help themselves.

Drum Circle

Since 2017 the Drum Circle has been meeting in front of the church on a weekly basis on Wednesdays from 10 -11 a.m. The drummers by the lake are a group of women and men who meet once a week to drum, talk, laugh, pray, and enjoy the beat.

In 2018 we engaged drum master Saikou to learn how to drum and get inspired. We learned that drumming:

Begins with the beat of your heart
Is the natural extension of your daily routine
Provides a way of nurturing faith and spiritual growth

Drummers are encouraged to participate in performances in the neighborhood like the Mimico Party in the Park. Come and join us – let the beat go on.

Masks for Good

“Masks for Good,” started in July 2020 as a collaborative campaign between Martin Luther Church, Redeemer Lutheran Church, and Stonegate Ministry. This campaign is a response to the newly instituted bylaws that require wearing masks and serves as an opportunity for our communities to produce and distribute face masks for our neighbours, especially for those most vulnerable. The fight against COVID-19 pandemic is far from over, and we want to ensure that every person has access to personal protective gear. A face mask is essential in slowing the spread of the virus.

“Masks for Good” will produce and distribute masks outside our churches, to food banks, and shelters. Not only will this campaign distribute facemasks, but it will also allow us to hear the voices of those we meet and learn more about the needs of our communities.

In order for this campaign to be successful, we need you! We are asking for your support and participation. If you are able to donate or cut fabric, sew masks, or bike around town to transport materials, we need you! Together, we can make a difference.
