Do you remember last week when we talked about Noah and all the animals crammed into the ark sharing that small space? This week we are talking about sharing again using a much bigger word for it ’stewardship‘.  Today we will figure out what stewardship is and how to do it.  Our story will show us how a long time ago the first Christians became one big happy family and people knew they were Christians because they shared.

Before We Read and Watch Today’s Story…

Let me ask…

What are some ways that you care for your friends?

How do your friends care for you?

That is a tough question, think about it this way…

If you were in need, you were sad, you were really frustrated, or maybe really sad, how do would you want a good friend act?

When you read, watch, and listen to today’s story of the early Christians I want you to listen closely for signs of caring like the ones we just talked about.

Here is Our Story:

Acts 2: 42-47: „And they devoted themselves to the apostles‘ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to the prayers. Then fear came over everyone, and many wonders and signs were being performed through the apostles. Now all the believers were together and held all things in common. They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as anyone had a need. Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple complex, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with a joyful and humble attitude, praising God and having favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to them those who were being saved.“

The Believers Share Their Possessions

Acts 4:32-37 32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. 33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all 34 that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles‘ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.
36 Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means „son of encouragement“), 37 sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles‘ feet.

I Wonder…

We learned that the people in those early days came together, prayed, sang, and learned together, do you do that?

All of those people were sharing their things, like clothing and food!

Do you like to share your things? Maybe with a brother or sister?

Is Sharing hard sometimes?

What happened when those people were sharing and others saw them laughing, singing, and eating big meals together?

When we talked before about what it looks and feels like when we are caring toward others and others are caring toward us, is sharing caring?

Did you say that is one way you like to show that you care, and a way that makes you feel cared for?

Maybe SHARING = CARING…

Let’s Think About That…

The early church wasn’t about a building! It was all about a community of people who loved Jesus and were following his example of how to live.  The people loved God and they loved each other, and it showed! That love grew and blessed others so much that the church grew and grew. The Bible tells us because of their sharing (SHARING=CARING) more and more people were believing in Jesus every day! God loves us and wants us to love and care for each other.
Don’t forget SHARING=CARING, this week let’s share His love with other people.

Let’s Talk About How…

Sing Our GoodBye Song…

Still picture of Sei behütet Youtube video

English

Chorus: Be sheltered on serving paths.
Be protected in the middle of the night.
Through sunny days, storms and rain,
the Creator keeps watch over you.

1) In the middle of the gray everyday world,
which sang and soundlessly cramped me,
I hear a song that I like
and that gives me perspectives.

2) Sometimes when a day comes to an end
and the night penetrates all cracks,
I feel the wind that blows around us
and brings these lines with it.

3) Whenever we part,
I feel sadness, I feel alone.
And until we meet again,
the words should be your companion.

German

Ref.: Sei behütet auf dienen Wegen.
Sei behütet auch mitten in der Nacht.
Durch Sonnentage, Stürme und durch Regen
hält der Schöpfer über dir die Wacht.

1) Mitten in die graue Alltagswelt,
die sang und klanglos mich beengt,
höre ich ein Lied, das mir gefällt
und das mir Perspektiven schenkt.

2) Manchmal, wenn ein Tag zu Ende geht
und die Nacht durch alle Ritzen dringt,
spüre ich den Wind, der uns umweht
und diese Zeilen mit sich bringt.

3) Immer, wenn wir auseinandergehn,
spür ich Trauer, fühl mich allein.
Und bis wir uns einmal wiedersehn,
solln die Worte dein Begleiter sein.
