How often have you stood in the basement of the Martin Luther Church Toronto, looking at framed photographs of confirmands, reading their names, remembering the people and wondering about their whereabouts and wellbeing?
The photos were taken off the wall after the flooding of the basement on July 16, 2024. The photos had lost their luster due to their age. Digital copies were made so that the images would not be lost. You will find them all again in this book, together with pictures of more recent confirmations.
This book is also a testament to the rich history of the Martin Luther Church Toronto, this year celebrating its 70-year anniversary.
Confirmation is an integral part of our faith and Lutheran church life. An event where young people say: “Yes, I want to belong, I want to commit myself to God” This they proclaim before God and the congregation. The Confirmands receive a blessing and the congregation welcomes them as members that from now on have the right to vote.
The confirmands prepared for that moment by attending confirmation classes. The format of the classes has changed over the years. What has not changed on the day of the Confirmation is the pride and joy of parents, grandparents and godparents and the joy of the congregation that this event took place yet again. We pray that in the future people will come to the Martin Luther Church with the desire to learn about the Christian faith and to live it.
