Eberhard Schwantes Educational Fund presented to Alex

The Eberhard Schwantes Educational Fund was created in memory of the late Pastor Eberhard W. Schwantes, the shepherd of our congregation for 35 years from 1964 to 1999. This scholarship is awarded to youth in our Congregation at Martin Luther Church to support them in their studies after high school. On Sunday February 23, 2025, Council presented Alex Boettcher with this award as he is leaving to pursue university studies in Japan.

Presiding Vicar Alice Rothgordt gave a blessing and the Church Choir sang “Irish Blessing” to send off Alex. Here is a link to YouTube video: https://youtu.be/VIBQx97oP-s (9.10 minutes)

On behalf of Church Council, Tanya Zielke presented the award in recognition of his involvement in –and contribution to– our Church, saying: “Alex, you have been a member of this Congregation for many years and been involved in so many aspects of congregational life. You’ve supported our Confirmation classes, volunteered on the Tech team, helped with Hospitality, volunteered as an usher, participated, assisted and directed the Christmas play / Krippenspiel and have always lent a helping hand whenever needed. We are excited to support you as you continue your journey to begin your studies in Japan. This scholarship is just one step along the path to your bright future. We are confident that you will continue to excel and make a positive impact in your new community and beyond.
Your dedication to Martin Luther Church will be missed. You will be missed. Congratulations!”

We wish Alex all the best in this next chapter of his life!
