A Farewell for Vicar Alice Rothgordt, back to Germany

Council President Jocelyn Sommerfeld thanking Vicar ALice Rothgordt on September 21, 2025 Farewell Service

On Sunday, September 21, 2025, we said farewell to Vicar Alice Rothgordt, who is returning to Germany after a one-year vicariate placement abroad with us at Martin Luther Church via the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD)). The farewell service, led by Pastor Annika Klappert, featured heartfelt musical performances – “I Lift My Eyes Up”, led by Tanya Zielke, Pastor Annika, and Iris Schweiger, and the “Irish Blessing” sung by the Church Choir.

Vicar Alice also gave her concluding sermon, which was focused on gratitude and included descriptions of some of her most memorable moments. In an emotional display, Alice was blessed by six of her friends and colleagues who offered words of encouragement and wisdom. Council President Jocelyn Sommerfeld formally thanked Alice in the announcements, describing all the ways in which she helped the church.

The service was followed by a lively reception with coffee and cakes in the foyer (thank you to all who contributed!), and a chance to sign Alice’s farewell card. We wish Vicar Alice all the best in her future endeavours. Thanks be to God!
