Volunteer Appreciation at Dinner Church Wed Oct 22

On Wednesday October 22, 2025, members of the congregation and community came together for a Volunteer Appreciation night at Dinner Church! 30 people enjoyed an Oktoberfest-inspired meal including sausages, rouladen, red cabbage, potato salad, rye bread and pretzels, plus homemade spaetzle, carrot salad, cheesecake, and other desserts. A big thank you goes out to Martin Haefele for sponsoring the catered dinner from Brandts Meats, and to all others who made or brought food and stayed to help set up and clean up! Leftovers were distributed to attendees or packed for our 24/7 outdoor food pantry and our Bowls and Blessings program on Friday at noon.

The evening’s liturgy centered around the theme of thankfulness. In addition to our traditional Dinner Church elements (e.g., singing “Draw The Circle Wide, Breaking of Bread, and Blessing of Cups), Pastor Annika Klappert led a reflection (via Zoom) based on John 13:12-15, where Jesus washes the disciples’ feet. Attendees also had a chance to ponder the challenges and joys of serving (represented through weighing stones and lighting candles), and chose a personal blessing to take home. The night concluded with Prayers for the People and the closing hymn “Take My Life, That I May Be”. Thank you to our Pastor and Dinner Church team for making this special event possible!

Original Post October 9, 2025: We warmly invite you to a special evening of gratitude and fellowship at our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. This event is/will be part of our Dinner Church series, where all are welcome (from the congregarion and the community) to come together to share a meal, reflect in a spiritual setting, and connect with one another in a welcoming, interactive atmosphere.

To honour your dedication and service at Martin Luther Church (on one or countless occasions), we’ll be gathering for a festive night with Oktoberfest-themed food and thoughtful liturgy by Pastor Annika Klappert and our Dinner Church team. During the evening, there will also be an opportunity for a personal blessing for those who wish to receive it. This will be a wonderful way to celebrate the impact you’ve had and to be refreshed with the community you’ve helped build.

As always, we are grateful for contributions of food to our potluck meal and for help with set up and take down.
