The Christmas Tree Journey + Gathering to Decorate on Wed Dec 17 at 7:00 pm
The journey to having a festive and bright Christmas tree at our church began on November 13, 2025, when a few church members travelled to Giesela Schmidt’s property near Orangeville to scope out suitable trees.
The chosen evergreen tree was cut down and delivered on December 12, with help from church and community members. After some excitement with a false fire alarm and on Sunday, December 14, (there was no danger, everything is okay!) the tree was placed in its spot on the altar with lights installed and topped with the star.
Almost 30 people gathered on Wednesday December 17 to decorate the tree, including -for the first time- members of the drum circle who provided musical accompaniment. Jocelyn got straight to work with the team of tree decorators who took turns hanging paper and straw stars, angels, and other ornaments. At 17ft, it is our second-tallest tree on record! (Decades ago we managed to put up a 20ft tree). Emma organized rest and relaxation activities, along with crafts, for those who wanted to slow down and socialize a bit. Pastor Annika and Marlena helped organize snacks that were shared to nourish helpers and guests alike. We also enjoyed cupcakes (celebrating a special 8-year old’s birthday).
Every year, we are grateful to everyone who helps get the tree ready for Christmas! We are always looking for more helping hands in this process. Eventually the tree, and all the ornaments, will need to come down again after Epiphany. Hopefully everything comes together again next year. Please contact Marlena in the office if you can help!

A pine tree as tall as our organ loft was cut down on Giesela Schmidt’s property for our church by volunteers Dan, Jocelyn, Matthias and Philippe Jr on Friday December 12, 2025. A trio of neighbours jumped in to to help position the tree at the back of the worship space before it is moved to the altar where it will be decorated on Wednesday December 17, 2025.
