Thanksgiving Food Drive 2018
Last updated on October 15th, 2018
In September the food bank and community lunch program run by the Wesley Mimico United Church (WMUC) returned to the basement of Martin Luther Church (MLC), welcoming people of all ages, races and economic circumstances. The housing co-ops and apartment buildings along the Mimico waterfront is home to nearly 3,500 individuals who struggle with poverty, the majority of whom are seniors, persons on disability insurance, immigrants, and single parent-families living on low income. WMUC has a long history of supporting the local community by providing warm meals and supplying urgently needed groceries to our Mimico area residents since 1996.
WMUC Food Bank: 11:00 to 12:00, every Saturday except the last Saturday of the month.
WMUC Community Lunch: 12:00 to 13:00, every Saturday.
Both events take place at the MLC basement from September to June.
Supporting this food ministry can be done in various ways — be it food donations, providing financial support, or volunteering in person. MLC, for instance, has been providing space for the food bank and luncheon for the last four years. This year, we are also holding a Thanksgiving Food Drive, where all are encouraged to donate non-perishable food and/or toiletry items, including:
- cereal
- cans of meat or fish
- dry pasta and pasta sauce
- macaroni and cheese
- cans of soup and vegetables
- peanut butter
- juice boxes
- crackers
- coffee and tea
- rice
- sugar
- toilet paper
- laundry detergent
- bars of soap
- travel sized shampoo, tooth brush, and tooth paste
These items can be dropped off at our church. If you would like to volunteer or make financial donations, please contact the MLC office for more information. We thank you for all your support!
