German “Weltgebetstag” 2025 led by Vicar Alice Rothgordt of the Martin Luther Church, Toronto

Kia orana! This year we celebrated the country of the Cook Islands, and the theme was “I have made you wonderfully,” based on Psalm 139:14 (1-18).

The German World Day of Prayer led by Vicar Alice Rothgordt in our church was attended by 22 participants from Martin Luther Church and St. George’s Church, including Pastor Katharina Moeller. Adorned with leis, we watched a video presentation together and learned about the history, lives, and culture of indigenous Maori women on the Cook Islands in the Pacific Ocean. We sang and read from the worship booklet written by Cook Island women. Several speakers read aloud their parts. Music was provided by Linda Marcinkus on the piano and Philippe Koo on vocals and guitar.

Afterwards we had a get-together luncheon.

We thank the volunteers who helped by bringing lunch (pineapple chicken, ginger coconut chicken and rice, beef dumpling soup, squash soup), dessert (coconut sweet potato, banana ‘poke’, blueberry muffins, brownies, fruit) and beverages (a tropical pineapple drink, plus coffee and tea). Thank you also to everyone who assisted with setting up, serving, and cleanup.

The collection ($390) went to the Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada (WICC) (https://wdpcanada.ca/world-day-of-prayer/). Special envelopes were provided. Taxes receipts will be issued directly from WICC for donations over $20. Thank you for your support.
