The Lenten Services started on Ash Wednesday, February 18, together with the Protestant congregations from the neighborhood in Mimico.

What does a contemporary “way of the cross” look like? This question was discussed by the artist Cynthia Tokaya with a Düsseldorf parish after which she then created a work of art for their church nave interior.

We look at these often surprising images in this year’s Lenten worship services at Martin Luther Church. You will be intrigued by their colour and meanings, which are often only discovered after a second look. Large format prints of her images will be on display inside our church throughout the Lent season.

Cynthia Tokaya’s paintings can be viewed in the original environment (St. Bruno’s Kirche in Düsseldorf) backed with a song “Unterrify My Heart” by the artist in the YouTube video: http://youtu.be/AsX2Orec5UE

There is also a YouTube video of an interview with Cynthia Tokayo which has a very good explanation of the St. Bruno Kreuzweg series of paintings http://youtu.be/SWRzR8LQFxE (in German)
