Thieves Break into Daycare of Martin Luther Church again
It’s the third time that burglars have broken into our daycare, stolen items and damaged it. The Martin Luther Church asks neighbours for their help to avoid further break-ins.
A fire that destroyed the facilities in October 2013 led to the closing of the toddler program and the layoff of several staff members.
The renovation of the daycare is proceeding slowly because of setbacks.
For its renovation the building needed new building permits which were difficult to obtain due to the age of the building and the necessary upgrades. Since then the daycare building at 5 Superior Avenue had three break-ins. The insurance covers most of the costs; however, with each interference the insurance cost and deductible increase. In addition new safety devices have to be installed.
Fortunately the police reacted quickly to each break in and promised to patrol in the area more frequently.
With these break-ins the proposed opening of the Martin Luther Church Day Care in the middle of summer is in jeopardy. We have been serving families and their children in the Mimico area since 1970 and with your help we will continue do to so long into the future.
If you would like to make a donation to speed up the restoration effort, checks can be made out to the Martin Luther Church (PROJECT: DAY CARE).
