Volunteer from Home or at Church
Last updated on May 20th, 2020
Are you bored? Would you like to volunteer with other people who are at a safe physical distance, by yourself or with the people you are isolating with?
Here are some ideas to fill your days.
Volunteer opportunities during COVID-19
- Corona Care Caller:
- Stay in touch with 5 -10 congregation members by calling or e-mailing them each week to find out their needs and give updates from MLC
2. Investigate how MLC can serve the community:
- Contact churches and community partners in the neighborhood to find out what they are doing, and how we can support or add to existing programs:
- Albion Neighbourhood Services
- Daily Bread Food Bank
- ESS Support Services
- Humber College
- John Howard Society
- LAMP
- St. Margaret’s Church
- Stonegate CHC
- Storefront Humber
- Women’s Habitat
3. Spring Clean the Church: one family, one person at a time (bring all your own equipment, cleaning agents, etc. to avoid contamination)
- Clean up sanctuary, organ loft, and foyer:
- Dust all pews, window sills
- Polish brass
- Vacuum all steps, between pews
- Stock benches with envelopes, pencils, etc.
- Clean up Sunday school room:
- Organize items into appropriate bins
- Take note of any potentially missing items (scissors, tape, erasers, etc.)
- Vacuum floor
- Dispose of any expired snacks/drinks; take out any garbage/recycling
- Clean up storage rooms:
- Reorganize items for greater accessibility
- Dispose of any broken, damaged, or unused items
- Clean up basement meeting rooms:

4. Stay tuned:
- We have connected with the organisation ‘Greenest City’: they are looking for partners to build 200 water reservoir containers for balcony gardening

5. Get creative: Come up with ideas on how to help your neighbours and MLC!
