… with guest speaker Rachel Reesor, Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment
On Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 7:00 pm, we will gather at our church for a time of sharing in the Word, prayer, and learning with Rachel Reesor from the Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment in Etobicoke (https://jeanaugustinecentre.ca/).
Rachel Reesor has been the Program Coordinator at the Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment for 2 years. Previously, she taught grade 6 in the Northwest Territories for four years before moving to Toronto to obtain her masters in Immigration and Settlement Studies. She has worked in the shelter system for 4 years as a Life Skills Worker and Supervisor and has moved into Program Development. She loves hiking and camping, and has big goals to one day start her own non profit organization focused on building skills through outdoor education for youth.
The Jean Augustine Centre believes that an empowered young woman can improve their life and have a positive impact on the world around them. It is committed to empowering young women and girls between the ages of 7-17 years to improve their life and have a positive impact on the world around them. Empowerment by providing programs that support the mental, physical, and social wellbeing of young women and girls.
FYI the Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment is named after Hon. Dr. Jean Augustine P.C., C.M., O.Ont., C.B.E. is the first African-Canadian woman to be elected to the House of Commons. She was elected in the riding of Etobicoke-Lakeshore in 1993 & sat in Parliament until 2006. (Wikipedia)
Dinner Church involves a simple meal and service based on the community meals of the early Christians.
