1000 Islands Bus Trip and Boat Cruise on Sunday June 4, 2023

Last updated on July 6th, 2023

UPDATE: It was a lovely day for a drive along the 401 and a leisurely boat cruise among the picturesque landscape of the 1000 islands in the St. Lawrence River. Many thanks to the organizers’ efforts –to fill the bus with 41 eager daytrippers– and the generosity of the MLC Seniors Group’s subsidizing the bus cost, so the trip could be offered at a vastly reduced price!

The stop along the way at the Big Apple rest stop (https://thebigapple.ca/ Colborne), was awesome with its in-house bakery and its extensive food and gift shoppe. Arriving in Rockport, we met Pastor Judith Kierschke’s group from Martin Luther Church Ottawa (https://glco.org/en/) at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church (http://www.stspatrickbrendan.com/) for a short devotion led by Pastor Annika Klappert.

Then, we were off on the cruise, winding our way for two hours through the scenic 1000 islands riverscape of blue skies and blue water! Sunny and warm enough to venture out on the decks. A chance to get to know each other; it was amazing how we cared for one another – both young and old. The decks were filled with diverse and multi-generational exchanges among strangers. We had new and multi- generational members/friends of our church join –from our neighbourhood to as far away as Barrie. The total number of participants was 64 (including the Ottawa group).

UPDATE April 19, 2023: Thanks to the generosity of our Seniors Group, which is subsidizing the cost of the bus, we now have a greatly reduced price!

Join us for another outing with Martin Luther Church Ottawa – this time to Rockport, Ontario! Including a return bus trip from our church, a 1000 islands cruise, and a walk through Rockport, this is sure to be a fun adventure. There are 52 spots to fill as soon as possible!

Itinerary: We will meet on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 8:00 am at Martin Luther Church Toronto and take the bus to Rockport, Ontario (320 km), a 3- hour drive. We plan to stop en route at the Big Apple Experience Rest Area (262 Orchard Rd, Colborne, ON K0K 1S0) for approximately 30 minutes for a washroom break and an opportunity to purchase a second breakfast or lunch. Once there, we will take a boat cruise (about 1 hour) in the 1000 Island waterway on the St. Lawrence River.

Besides the boat cruise, we will stroll around the small town of Rockport (20 Front St, Rockport, ON K0E 1V0) —with its picturesque church from 1891— and have a picnic together (all are encouraged to bring their own food for lunch). We will then arrive back at the church around 6:00 pm, depending on traffic.

Cost: The cost of this excursion with bus ride (a comfortable bus, seating 56 with air conditioning and a washroom on board) and boat cruise is as follows:
