Ascension of Christ – 11:00 am German service for German-speaking congregations in the GTA, followed by lunch

Last updated on April 20th, 2024

We will celebrate our traditional German service for Ascension Day at 11:00 am Thursday May 9th, this year at Martin Luther Church. We welcome all German-speaking ecumenical congregations in the GTA. We will gather in the church to sing and pray together and reflect upon the meaning of this special day, when Jesus finally said goodbye to his friends and left this earth to be with his father in eternity.

Afterwards we will meet for lunch, coffee and cake – cake donations are welcome!

“The Ascension of Jesus is the Christian belief, reflected in the major Christian creeds and confessional statements, that Jesus ascended to Heaven after his resurrection, where he was exalted as Lord and Christ, sitting at the right hand of God.” – Wikipedia

We celebrate Ascension Day to commemorate Jesus’s victory over death and his salvation of all those who believe in him and his exultation. It marks the end of the Easter celebration.

Ascension Day is traditionally celebrated on a Thursday, the fortieth day of Easter. It is one of the ecumenical (shared by multiple denominations) celebrations of Christian churches, ranking up there with the Passion and Pentecost.
